Meet Michael, Felicity and Noah: a three piece pop/rock party band that travel across the UK playing weddings and parties under the showbiz moniker 'SuperNova'.
Vocalist, Felicity, now 45, but looks 20-something from a distance, is desperate for stardom. Part of her believes she's already there. The other part of her is a petulant and truly vile five year old. As a child she promised brilliance in physics and astrology but celebrity culture sank its evil fangs in and she was turned.
Michael, 38, plays guitar and dreams of the days when he used to tour with '90s glam-rock outfit Lethal Lipstick. He and Felicity have a surreal and dangerously psychotic relationship, and a morbid fascination with '80s kids fantasy musical 'The Labyrinth'.
Noah, 25, is only filling in for mysteriously missing bass player Little Joey. With his girlfriend Katherine pregnant, Noah cannot commit to the band full-time. After telling Michael and Felicity, they plot to blackmail Noah into choosing the band over his unborn child, by staging an elaborate sexual indiscretion.
With Noah blackmailed into staying in the band, they spend the summer drinking, arguing and reluctantly performing at: a wedding for a schizophrenic bride and a groom that looks like Skeletor; a mixed-race wedding patrolled by flick-knife wielding Hoodies; an international wedding fair with an indie covers band, a pickpocket magician and a Tina Turner drag act; a working-class caravan holiday camp alongside last years X-Factor rejects; and a sangria-fuelled fancy dress wedding reception for Felicity's doppelganger bride.
Throughout this summer season, Michael treats Noah to his '90s glam-rock band stories and follows Felicity around like a dough-eyed puppy. Noah drinks his own body weight in alcohol and sleeps indiscriminately with one or more people at each event. Felicity's desperation for recognition and fame make her increasingly intolerable, causing Michael crushing anxiety and making Noah laugh.
Sadly, as the summer ends, Katherine miscarries and Noah contemplates this opportunity as a chance to leave the band. He knows that this action may cause him to loose Katherine as well.
